Weight Loss, is it for you?

Many overweight people lead successful and happy lives. You don't have to weigh near other peoples average weight to be happy. Let's take for example an overweight individual that decides to buckle under the constant societal comment about the benefits of weight loss and begins a diet program some day. What could happen to this overweight individual?

Chances are very high the individual with overweight would adjust his diet and get off to a good start. Almost all of us are capable of losing a good amount of weight during the first couple weeks, in possession of overweight or not, particularly since much of the initial weight loss is water. But during this time chances are good the person with overweight will be fairly unhappy, and this unhappiness will fester over time. Eventually the body will stop losing water weight and will start to burn fat, the weight loss will slow down a lot which could have a negative effect on the morale of the dieter.

Throughout the diet the person with overweight morale and optimistic outlook on life will suffer, and this might even affect other areas he was already successful with, such as his relationship with his family or his business. Eventually there is the chance that the individual will quit his diet, and that he or she will find himself with the old eating habits. He or she will not only gain what he or she has lost but also gain more overweight! Diets play havoc with the body's metabolism, so more often than not a person that quits a diet will end up with far more overweight than if they had had never dieted to begin with.

Of course, weight loss is a great goal that can provide a lot of benefits, but it just is not for everyone! If you are not 100% in to reaching the goal by your own will you could actually harm other areas of your life where you were happy with. Choose a goal which is compatible with your own needs and desires, because if you select an incompatible goal because there's some outside pressure from family or society, there's a good chance that it will do more harm than it will do good.
